ANGLICAN SYNOD. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, October 16. At the Synod it was decided to request the Bishop to appoint a commission to go into the question of religions instruction in the diocese. A motion of sympathy was agreed to in connection with the death of Mr T. S. Weston, who in past years was an active member of the Synod and an invaluable member of the Board of Church Property Trust. The proceedings have concluded. LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT. Wellington, October 16. Inspector J. D. Ritchie states that the Government has concluded arrangements for the purchase and delivery in March of the following Hawke’s Bay freeholds: Ngaroto, from H. Hartree, 10,000 acres, and adjoining property; Waihau, from Mcßae Peacock, 6000 acres in the, Pnkctapn riding; Sheridan, from Mr Lethbridge, 8300 acres, and adjoining property; Tnnanni, 2000 acres, from Mr Headley in the Okawa riding. The land is classed as-pastoral. It is not expected that it will be suitable for dairying purposes. Ngaroto and Waibau are described as well-watered. Sheridan and. Tnnanni are not so well supplied with running streams, and dams will probably lie required. The prices are not yet disclosed for publication.

On receipt of these complaints arrangements were made at once to relieve officers hy engaging some hands to do some of their work. Since then nothing further has keen heard of the matter and no difficulty had keen experienced when the steamer was at Wellington, Lyttelton, or 'Dunedin.
