FIRES.

DWELLING HOUSE DESTROYED. (Per Press Association.) Feilding, October 15. A dwelling bouse owned and occupied by Mr A. H. Maquire, was totally destroyed by fire this morning. Two valuable pictures were saved, but everything else was destroyed. The fire is alleged to have been caused by a kerosene stove. The insurance on the bouse are £SOO, and on the furniture £295, both in the Sun Office. ARTIST’S FLAT GUTTED. Auckland, October 15. There was a fire on the top floor of the Palmerston Buildings, Queen Street, about one o’clock this morning, but it was confined to what is known as the artist’s Hat. Excepting one studio, the flat was completely gutted. The studios destroyed were occupied by Moore, Jones, Annin, Shmit, C. Kingsley, Smith, F. Langmuir, M. Levy, H. Devere, Percy, Misses Kit, Turner, and Vera Jacobsen. The loss in pictures alone is estimated at £IOOO. Considerable damage was done from water in premises in the lower portion of the buildings, and almost every office in the building suffered. The fire was extinguished forty minutes after the outbreak. The caretaker’s wife retired at 11 p.m., but later heard an unusual noise, and found the studio occupied by Miss Turner ablaze, and gave the alarm. A BLAZE AT RANG I ORA. Christchurch, October 15. A fire at Ilnngiora this morning destroyed a shop and dwelling (owned by Mrs G. Dale, and occupcd by J. McAuliffo, undertaker), and also an adjoining dwelling owned by R. Kinley. Mrs Dale’s buildings were insured for £2OO in the Northern Insurance Company, and Mr Kinley’s bouse for £3OO and the contents for £IOO in the Liverpool, London and Globe.
