FIRE AT WHANGAREI.

(iVr Press .Association.) Whangarei, October 12. An eight-roomed house, owned and occupied by a man named Cross, was destroyed by lire. The only persons in the house were four children of the owner, Cross, the eldest of whom was 14 years of age, The mother and father were away and nothing was saved. Members of the Whangarei County Council have signed a guarantee to the Bank of New Zealand for £4OOO to meet payments until the rates are received.
