EMIGRATION.
(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) Melbourne, October 11. In order that emigration to Aus : tralia may be encouraged, it is proposed that it should be assisted. Four or five years will be needed before the shipping companies build the number of passenger steamers necessary to iolieve the congestion. It is suggested that the services of an efficient produce expert should be secured, with practical knowledge, smartness and capacity equal to that of the British commercial men, who get about ninety thousand words regarding Australia into the press monthly free. The press would take any number of good photographs if they could be secured. London, October 11. At tho Dominions’ Commission, Mi Taverner gave details of the. Victorian policy system of the selection of emigrants. He favoured the creation of an immigration department under the Secretary for the Colonies. On behalf of New Zealand ho advocated licensing emigration agents and societies. At present there warn much misiopro sentation and deception.
