TARANAKI ATHLETIC AND CALEDONIAN ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING
The eighth annual meeting of the Taranaki centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union took place last evening, when there were present, Messrs J. Clarke (in the chair), A. Hansen (Eltham), A. Henderson (Opunakc), S. N. Skelton (Waitara), T. Taylor (Riverlea), and J. H. Thompson (Stratford, secretary). The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance shoot, a summary of which has already appeared in the columns of the ‘Stratford Post,” congratulated the Centre on another successful year. The motion was carried unanimously-
Mr J. H. Thompson tendered his resignation, after seven years’ service as secretary for the Taranaki Athletic Association, he thanked members of the executive for the cordial relations which had always existed between them.
The Chairman moved, and Mr Hansen seconded, that the retiring secretary bo granted a bonus of five guineas, and that his resignation he accepted with much regret, and that an appreciation of his past services be recorded in the minutes.—Carried.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows;—Patron, Mr J. B. Hine, M.P.; president, Mr James Clarke (New Plymouth); vice-presi-dent, Mr Thomas Taylor (Riverlea); executive, Messrs A. Hansen (Eltham), A. Henderson (Stratford), G. N. Skelton (Waitara), J. H. Thompson (Stratford), J. McLeod (New Plymouth), George Watts (Haweraj, and O. A. Burke (Am'oa); hon. auditor, Mr L. Reira (Stratford); secretary, Mr B. Fearon (Stratford).
It was resolved that a bonus be made to Mr L. Reira in appreciation of his services as honorary auditor. At a subsequent meeting of the new executive, Mr A. Hansen was elected chairman for the ensuing year.
A letter was received from James Sexton, Gimpie, Queensland, at present under a life disqualification, asking for re-instatement.
The Chairman stated that this case had already been dealt with by the Dominion executive.
The Atiawa Maori Club (Waitara) applied for sole control of Maori events for Taranaki. It was resolved that the Club be advised that the Maori events were outside the jurisdiction of the Union. Mr W. G. Callendar (Hastings) wrote with reference to athletic matters-in the Auckland centre, dealing especially with the proposed division of' the North and South Islands in connection with the control of athletics.,
The opinion of the‘meeting was that this was not a wise step, and the proposal did not meet with the support of those present, Who were in favour of the present control—one Dominion executive.
A number of disqualifications were removed from the calendar. It . was resolved that! all clubs be circularised so as to get the dates of their meetings for the ensuing year—all dates to be advised to the Union before the end of November, to prevent the unnecessary clashing, which has occurred at various times, especially in South Taranaki.
