Newton King’s Stratford Weekly Report.
At the Hayrnarket on Saturday there was a large attendance. Pigs were penned in large numbers, practically all classes being represented. The enquiry was not so keen as of late, and prices ruling wore a little easier all round. Calves were penned in usual numbers, prices realised also showing a decline. I quote: Woaners 9s to 16s 6cl, small stores 17s to £l, medium do. £1 ss, calves Is Gd to 10s Gd, milk cart horse £2B.
Poultry: A moderate entry of all classes came forward ,a 11 being cleared at advanced rates. Hons Is 8d to 2s sd, roosters Is 9d to 3s 4d, ducks 3s sd, turkeys 9s 4d to 9s 9d, table potatoes 7s Gd to Hs cwt., seed potatoes Dates 8s to 8s Gd, White Rock 12s Gd, White Elephant 9s Gd, Northern Star 6s to 7s Gd cwt. Furniture and sundries at visual rates.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited and Reduced, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date, 4th instant:—
Frozen Moat.—The market is easier for mutton, lias a downward tendency for beef and the enquiry for lamb is limited.
