NEWS AND NOTESTho Public Accounts Committee will commence its inquiry into the administration of the State Guaranteed Ad varices Department under past Govern merits on Wednesday next. Mr Charles A. Wilkinson, Egmont’f new member, on Thursday gave native to ask the Minister for Defence whether he would send more drill instructors into the country districts. Mi Wilkinson stated that in dairying districts it was found very inconvenient for senior cadets to attend night parades at places distant from theii homes, and that the alteration asked for would make tho system of compulsory training more acceptable to country. settlers. The 'joint Parliamentary Committee set up to inquire into the petition M Mr Joshua Jones, of Mokau, Taranaki, will not begin the taking of evidence until next week.
