AVIATION.
A ! special, message to. tlie Sydney Sun says“ The., recent -aeroplane trials at Salisbury Plain are declared to have completely failed to fulfil their injtendedj purpose i of .indicating chine that was best adapted for the Army. The aeroplane that was pronounced to be the most successful was useless except in the haridpjpf Mr S. F. Cody, the'Army’s aviation expert. None of the other pilots, ;who took part in the competitions were, anxious to risk their necks in Cody’s machine, which is a queer structure. The War Office distinguished itself by drawing up a perfectly useless set of conditions. The only machine to comply with the rules was that designed by Mr Cody, which, however, was of no use except in the hands of the inventor himself. Aviators are now demanding that fresh trials should be made.”
