The South African football team “The Springboks,” have arrived. The team averages List.,a man. There are some transactions going on, or have been completed, by the New Zealand Rugby Union, - according to an opinion voiced by Dr. Crawford, president of the Southland Union, a t a. footballers’ reunion in Invercargill last week, that will ■ receive' 'the; earn • cst attention of delegates at the an rtual meeting of the controlling body. One of the points that required strict attention was the reception of. £SO from the New South Wales Union in settlement of a claim of £I2OO. The speaker thought that there must be something radically amiss when such a big claim could he reduced by so huge a sum. The smaller unions all over Now Zealand wore crying out for money, and consideration of their wants would, in Dr. Crawford’s estimation,- ha more in keeping with a proper and businesslike management of financial affairs by the committed of the. N.Z.R.U.
The H Company of the 11th Regiment of Territorials will play a football match oil Thursday at Stratford again; t the “D” squadron of- the 2nd Regimen t (Mounteds). The following will be the teams: infantry, H Company.—Bowler, Wood, Kive.ll, Sheahan, Collins (2), Sullivan, Osborne, Rennie, Loveridge, Coleman, Milner, Masters, Kennedy, Fowler, Dickenson, Paul, Davis. D Squadron (2nd Regiment) Mounted Rifles.—AY. V. Wilson, V. Crawshaw, S. M. Janice, C. K. Robinson, C. Crawshaw, H. J. Rogers, G. R. Coleman, E. A. Best, D. 11. Ferguson, J. Mcßride, A. E. Rhodes, M. Marfell, C. J. Pierce, W. P. Bootten, A. Sangster. Emergencies: J. Barnard, G. Thomas.
The match will commence at 3 o’clock sharp, the losers to pay for the dinner after the match. The Rev.- W. F. Stent, Alanaia, writes as follows to the Hawera Star: “In the interest of soccer players and others in South and North Taranaki, may 1 make use of your correspondence columns to inform them that 1 have resigned from both the chairmanship and membership of the governing body in Taranaki?”
