MRS. GODLEY’S SCHEME.

The movement inaugurated hy Mrs.

Godley for the stimulation of the cadet movement in New Zealand by providing special shooting prizes for the senior cadet corps, has been received with encouraging interest in all parts. It is Mrs Godley’s express desire to make the movement a Dominion one, the subscriptions which have been collected from each district being put together into one common fund, from which will be supplied the prizes to be offered to each corps. Not only would there be a prize for the best shot in each corps during the annual musketry practice, the prize to be held for a year. The next competition would most likely result in passing it on to another cadet. Mrs Godley also hopes, if the funds will allow of such proviion, that a Dominion Challenge Cup will ho provided, for the company that shoots best during the annual practice. The scores of all the boys would be kept, and the corps with the best aggregate for all would win the Challenge Cup. Already, it is stated in Wclington, the scheme appears to have removed quite a good deal of misconception regarding the training which hoys undergo under the Defence Act, and has created a keener interest in it on the part of the mothers and on the part of many of the cadets themselves. That a similar effect will follow in this district we have no doubt, if the mothers will take a reasonable interest in a matter that concerns them. With th's end in view a meeting of ladies is convened, to be held in the Borough Chambers on Thursday evening next.
