SYDNEY TUG-OF-WUR CONTESTS

There was a great crowd at the Stadium to witness the opening rounds of the £IOOO tug-of-war contests. In the international events, Scotland beat Ireland, and. Fitzpatrick'a Australian team beat Haokenburg's Australian team. In the all-comers championship the New Zealand Drivers' Union downed the Sawmill Employees. AUSTRALIAN "POLITICS. '.Mr Griffiths', referring to railway extension going to be extravagant, isaid that as Treasurer they should allow him the next loan and perhaps two or three loans. : They would not be raised in Australia.
