THE NORTH POLE,
Christiana, September 28
After conferring with Captain Nansen arid : 'the' Government, Captain Amundsen has postponed the expedition of the Fram to the North Pole for a year. The Oceanographer is unable to join the expedition at present, and it is impossible to replace him.
STROMBOLI IN ERUPTION
Rome, September 28
Stromboli is in violent eruption. Six craters are aflame, arid others are showering boiling water on the island, which is buried j n f rom wo | to six feet deep. There is great distress, owing to the destruction of the vineyards.
THE TOTTENHAM TRAGEDY
London, September 28
The mam who ran amok at Tottenham is named' Stephen Tii;us. He is apparently , an' Armenian and a malr of means;. Seeing a barmaid speaking. to some men, Titus commenced an altercation. He shot the manageress of the hotel dead, and seriously wounded the barmaid. He re'-loaded. his revolver in the street and held the crowd at bay. He shot a newsboy and two other persons before being captured after a severe struggle. MOTOR FATALITIES. Sydney, September 29. Two motor carsj en rouse to Hawi-.va-bury races, collided, and a chauffeur named Greig was killed and three passengers injured ,one -seriously. Brisbane, September 29. A motor-car overturned, and the driver, LaidlaW, was killed and one passenger injured. v . i - New York, September 28. At Norway, in Maine, a train hit an automobile, killed three men and injured two students. The car was wrecked.
