THE AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) Melbourne, September 19. Morrison won the golf championship, three up and one to play after an exciting contest. The winner, who is aged 21, successively defeated Murdoch, the Victorian amateur champion, Whitton, open champion of Australasia, and Captain Burnham, of England. INTER-STATE MATCHES. In the Inter-State matches Victoria beat New South Wales by four matches to three j Tasmania beat South Australia by sto 2. In the find Victoria beat Tasmania by 6 to 1. THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. Wellington, September 19. The New Zealand golf championship meeting was continued to-day. The weather was threatening in the morning, but the sun broke out and' made the games very pleasant. The seethe games in the amteur championship ship and of the professional match were played, and in the afternoon u bogey handicap was played. Seme of the games in the amteur championship were well fought out, a capital go being witnessed between B. B. Wood and B. L. Taylor. In the professional match W. McEwan and J. McCormick played a fine match, the former finishing one up. The Governor took part in a four ball bogey handicap, his partner being A. Duncan, but they were defeated by Kennedy and B. Strath. To-morrow the third round of the professional match and the third and fourth of the amateur championship will be played, and the final of the amateur cQiampionship will be played on Saturday.
