HIGHWAYMEN IN SYDNEY. HOTELS ROBBED AND TRADES PEOPLE VICTIMISED.

(Received 9.40 a.m.) Sydney, September 20. - A man armed with a revolver visited three hotels in the city yesterday. At the first'ho paid two visits, threatening the licensee on each occasion. At the .second he was accompanied by two mates. A customer flashing gold m the parlour received a wound on the forehead with a knuckle duster, but he fled, and the three men followed, firing one N shot, and being unsuccess ful in stopping .him returned to th< bar and ordered drinks. The landlady refused, and the men then de parted. 1 The climax occurred at Durrack s: Hotel, at the corner of Elizabeth anc Campbell streets. At four o'clock : man with his face .swathed in a 'hand kerchief and carrying a revolver burs, into the bar, rushed to the till ana helped himself! to the contents. Tin licensee, whose age was 72, closed w-itL the intruder and gripped (his wrist. The man freed himself and decamped The licensee pursued and grappled wita the robber, whose revolver went off. The shot attracted two policemen, win effected an arrest. Reports of other robberies continue to be received. The licensee of s suburban hotel was robbed of £52. A Chinese gardener in the same suburl lost £SO. In another suburb Masonic jewels valued at £2O were stolen.
