The Federal Minister's attention has been drawn to a' statement in a Japanese paper* that 3000 additional Japanese are being sent to work in the Noumean nickel mines. In. the event of the confirmation of the report, it is probable a protest will be made to France through the Colonial Office. EDUCATION IN VICTORIA. The Minister of Education has introduced a i Bill providing for an incrovso in teachers' salaries. The cost of education per scholar in Victoria is £7 10s lOd per annum, the largest in the Commonwealth.
