THIS TROUBLE AT WAIHI.

■ o THE PICKETS’ PLACE IN PRISON

(Per Press Association.) Waihi, September 19

The strikers confined in Auckland gaol for refusing to find sureties to keep the peace, beyond deprivation of their liberty are not under any hardship. The food is plain but wholesome. They are confined in the yard by themselves and have no social intercourse with other prisoners. The gaol library is at their disposal and they can receive any literature supplied by friends. They are, however, deprived of tobacco. They can be visited by friends once a mouth. The gaolers state that in the event of any person wishing to make arrangements for their release by finding the required sureties they will be only too glad to relax this regulation. Tiie waterside workers carried a resolution condemning the imprisoning of the Waibi miners for peaceful picketing and demand their instant release from prison.

LABHOR PARTY UPHOLD THE LAW.

Auckland, September 19. At a meeting of the Council of the United Labour Party a motion protesting against the Waihi strikers being imprisoned was negatived by 19 votes to four on the ground that the men were imprisoned, not for striking, but for breaking the law.

There are 20 licensed taxi-cabs in Napier, and more are expected to appear daily. On Tuesday, September 24th, a public mooting is to be held at Maiio'e to form a society to take over the Malice Hall from the Malioo Hall 'trustees. For Influenza, take Woods’ Groat Peppermint Cue. Never fails. Is 6d and 2s Gd.
