VICTORIAN AMATEUR CHAMSHIP. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, September 18. The amateur golf championship of Australia resulted in a tie between Captain Burnham (England) and IT. Morrison (Victoria). THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. Wellington, September 18. The New Zealand golf championship meeting was continued to-day in ideal weather. The wind died down to a gentle breeze, and the sun shone from an almost cloudless sky. Owing to the rain overnight, the links had not much chance of drying, there being “casual” water in low-lying spots, and on .some ~oTUhh~~greens: Should the rain: hold off for the rest of the week, the links should be in good order for the concluding rounds of the championship. The programme to-day consisted of the first round of the professional match, and the first round of the amar teur championship, and in the afternoon the bogey handicap. The defeat of Clements, winner of the open championship, by J. McCormick, the young Hutt professional, came as a surprise. Lusk defeated Duncan in the amateur event, PROFESSIONAL MATCH. First round: McCormick heat Clements, 1 up at the 21st hole. Hood beat Watt, 3 and 2. The second round of the professional match will be ployed this morning. The competitors will he A. Stewart v. W. B. Simpson, W. McEwen v. J. McCormick, B. Wood v. R. C. Butters.

During the afternoon a bogey handicap was played, among the competitors being His Excellency the Governor. The best cards hands in were as follows:—B. L. Taylor all square, B. B. Wood all square, A. Myers all square, W. Manskfield 1 down, H. Didsbury 1 down, J. B. Lusk 2 down. The leaders will play-off the tie in a four-ball handicap. MiANAWATU LADIES’ TOURNAMENT. Palmerston N., September 18. The Manawatu Ladies’ Open Tournament was continued to-day in cold and windy weather. In the third round, played in the morning, Miss G. Gorrie boat Miss R, Gorrie, 3 and 2; Miss Hamlin beat Mrs Seifert, 2 and .1. The final will be played to-morrow alter noon . The driving competition was won by Miss Sybil Abraham with a length .f 143yds 2ft, and Miss G. Gorrie was second with 142yds Ift. The approach competition was won by Miss Combes, and the following fed for second place: Mrs Cox, Misses G. Gorrie, Sybil Abraham, Cowper and Moore. The tie will bo played off in the morning. The putting competition was won by Mrs Strang with 18.
