THE VOLPLANE DISASTER

London, September 11Lieutenant Bottington and Hotchkiss belonged to the Hying Corps, and were proceeding to the manoeuvres, volplaning, and after stopping the engine, were thrown out and fell into a stream. . ... Hotchkiss was piloting the British monoplane which recently won the War Office prize of £SOO. During the descent he backed sharply and one o. the planes collapsed. The final entry in his diary reads: “Over Oxford; struck a rainstorm.” It closes with a very unfinished word, presumably “windy.’
