TOWNS SWEPT AWAY IN A FLOOD LOSS OF OVER 30,000 LIVES.
Sydney, September 10. A Shanghai letter from Wenchow.fates that the Hoods on August 29th re vened the proportions of a tidal w ave at Chuiichow and overwhelmed Esingjjon. Ten thousand wore drowned. The floods entirely destroyed Koneo and washed away several small towns, the river Wenchow on the morning or .bo 30th was a terrible sight, the ruins ~f numberless homesteads floating swiftly seawards, whereon ' were crouched men, women and children. It
s exceedingly difficult to estimate the osn, but thirty or forty thousand have icon drowned.
