GIRLS’ FRIENDLY SOCIETY.

o MUSICAL EVENING

A musical evening in aid of the newly-formed Stratford branch of the Girls’ Friendly Society was held in the Parish Hall last' night. The Vicar (Rev. W. A. Butler) presided, and there was an excellent attendance, the .evening being a truly enjoyable one. A feature of the evening was a capital little comedy, ‘‘Diamond Cut Diamond,” acted by Captain ami Mrs Dampen. The scene is laid at Monte Carlo, and the hero and heroine meet there after a separation of seve-

ral years. Both confess, in spite oi certain pledges, to have boon married once since then, but by a strange coincidence the respective husband _ am wife had died. Just as the old friend ship is being renewed, an Australia, millionaire passes, and the lady tx claims, “My second husband!’’ Then, in turn, the second wife of the hero, (this one also possessed of millions) appears on the scene. Pressed lor an answer, the heroine explains that

slio had married again because “one must do something for a living,” whit' ho rejoins that ho had failed to be true because “one must do somebody for a living.” The acting of Captain ami Mrs Dampen was capital, and the play was heartily applauded. Among those who contributed to the niusica; portion of the programme were Songa: Miss Cladys Black, Miss Cutler and Messrs Jones and Lewis; reci ration, Mrs Lanipen; ehelln Kveriss; pianoforte solo, Miss Fitzgerald. An item of exceptional ex cellenco was the “Polish .Dance, ' pianoforte Quartet, played hy Mrs Penn, and the Mi.-sas O’Leary, Itvans, and Fitzgerald.
