Mr. Ryan has been chosen leader of the Queensland Labour Party, vice Mr Bowman, resigned owing to ill-health. Mrs. C. Diamond (Club Hotel) returned to Stratford yesterday, after spending a pleasant holiday at Wanganui, Hastings, and Napier. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Alger and two of their children are sufferers from the prevailing epidemic of mumps, their friends will be sorry to learn. Mr. Mounsoy has been appointed chairman of the Makahu Dairy Company, in place of Mr. A. Coyne, who has retired, after some years of valuer nble service to the company. Sir John' Gordon has resigned the -Chairmanship of the Sugar Convention owing to illhealth, and Professor Jethro Brown, of Adelaide, succeeds him. —Melbourne cable. Mr J. P. Stuart, manager of the Dairy Union Butter Factory, Eketahuna, for the past nine years, and ‘2O years with the Union, has accepted a position on the Dairy Commissioner’s staff with headquarters at Palmerston North.—P.A. wire. The death occurred yesterday at Ekotahuna of Mr F. W. Dowsett, jun., who has boon a resident there for 23 years, says a Press Association wire. His age was 48. Word has been received by Mr E. C./Robinson, Stratford, from Hamilton, that it has been found necessary to amputate the Rev. 0. Hanby’s leg, owing to the severe injuries sustained in the recent tram accident at Taringamotu. Friends will be relieved to learn that so far the sufferer is progressing favourably. Mr C. J. McKenzie,- resident engineer of the Public Works Department, returned to Stratford last night. . Mr McKenzie has been detailed to reEort on the proposed Waitara-Awa-ino railway, and has spent a week in preparing ins report, which will bo submitted to headquarters in duo course.
Mr. George Sangster, at last night’s meeting of the executive of the Stratford A. and P. Association, tendered his resignation as a member of tno committee. The resignation was accepted with regret, and Mr. Percy Buckl was elected to the vacancy. Mr. E. Kelleher was appointed a member of the Grounds Committee, and Mr. R. McK. Morison was made a member of the Building Committee.
