TOUR TO WELLINGTON
(By “One of Them.”) The Stnicford District High School football team left Stratford by the mail train last Tuesday and reached Wanganui at 12.30. They were met at the station by the masters and toys of the Wanganui Technical College* ■uid were si.on well cared for by the Wan ranui bovs. Those Stratford boys wno boarded some distance out m town were kindly entertained at lunch m LUO town. ‘The boys wore shown over the well-equipped technical College, whore they saw much to interest J The match at the Park in the afternoon resulted in a win for the home team bv a comfortable margin, int size of the score piled up against oui bovs was due probably to two causes(L) most of them seemed a hUlo soasick” after the train rule m the morning; and (2) the Wanganui team had one very fast back, who simply “ran round” our boys every time hi got an opening. . , Next morning the boys - visited th various sights of the town, and thor on eddy enjoyed themselves, lime pass Si all too Quickly, and at 1?’ o’clock on Wednesday they leit by the mm train for Wellington. After a I°, journey, not altogether devoid of J terest, they arrived at Welling-on h 7.20 p.m. Hero they wore mot b> th Wellington tedfes—Messrs Horn pieman, Lynskew”Burns, and himni —and very soon each of our hoys « marching off under the care ot a W t lington boy—mostly a very dimimuiv Wellington boy at that. This is a fat which caused considerable' merniimn on the station—the sight of n big la ranakij “white slave” marching off uu der the care and guidance of a sm.\ Wellington boy huff* the size of bi charge. Our boys undoubted lv were the heavier team, but uo nearly as much heavier as the news papers make them out to bo—viz., U each. Thev might have been ball t one stone each heavier In this mate, all the Stratford boys played well, th ones deserving of special mention In ing, perhaps, Stanners, I'rjday, Cii„ ton, and Campbell. .. On Thursday night at the Burling ton Tea Rooms our boys were ngh royally entertained at a dinner■ twi'iich they did full justice. Jhe. wore present: The Secretary of th Wellington Rugby Union, the Socre tarv of the N.Z. Rugby Union Mi Hi,m (member for Stratford), and ver. many Wellington teachers All thspeakers urged the hoys to slick amateur Rugby, and to play the gam for the game’s sake, not for money. On Friday our boys went out to • e tone, where they were met by Mr Lynskey, and shown over tuo Covein mont Workshops and the Petone U oel len Mills. They wore then taken t< the Technical School, whore Mr Lyn c.] ce y very kindly had lunch ready. I the* afternoon they wore shown eve the Woollen Mills and the Hear Co. Works, and each proved an “oyc-opqn or” for the boys. The boys were very well looked at ter while'in Wellington.
