THE MATERNITY BONUS. Melbourne, September 4. A deputation representing the various churches of the State waited upon the Prime Minister (Mr Fisher) protesting against granting the proposed maternity bonus to illegitimate and ■still-born children, on the ground that it would ho conducive to immorality and abortion. Mr Fisher replied that no argument would deter Cabinet from making the allowance to all mothers. Cabinet would take measures to guard against the practice of abortion. If the Government were empowered to spend money for the oaring of illegitimates he would see that it was done.
