PANAMA CANAL.
DEMAND FOR ARBITRATION. London, September 3. Great Britain will officially lodge a formal demand for arbitration in connection with the Panama Canal dispute. NOT DIRECTLY INTERESTED. Berlin, September 3. The Frankfurter Zeitung says that all serious German journals are agreed that Germany is no longer directly interested in the Panama Canal. Great Britain, therefore, is not defending Europe’s cause but her own treaty. As right is on Britain’s side tibat should suffice. CRITICISM AFFECTING SENTIMENT. London, September 3. The Standard’s New York correspondent says that European criticisms Ci the Panama Canal are markedly affecting American sentiment. The (Americans ask what right they have to lecture them when they themselves disregarded treaties.
