VALEDICTORY.

Mr. C. S. Kelly, a very popular member of the literary staff or the ‘•Stratford Post,” having decided, tor health reasons, to move further north, to-day handed over the sub-editor nil chair and duties to Mr. Cnas. L. Grant, well-known in Taranaki, and at one time proprietor of the “Milton Mirror.” Mr. Kelly (who, bv the way) is a son of John Liddell Kelly, poet and journalist, and one time editor of the “New Zealand Times,” and also brother to John S. Kelly, probably the best-known, and certainly one of the most able pressmen fn Christchurch), will he an acquisition to journalism in Whangarei, and the “Stratford Post” is exceedingly sorry to lose his services. As a mark of the high regard for the retiring sub. v the stuff this afternoon met Mr. Kelly ami presented him with a dressingcase. The Editor, in making the presentation, expressed Ids warm persona! regard for Mr. Kelly, and his high, appreciation of the good work don;' by him. Mr. Kelly came of a family of journalists and gave promise of ’great things in the future. on_ behalf of the staff bo hoped Mr. Kelly would accept their gift, and that it would often remind him of the men in Stratford with whom lie had worked so long in harmony and good-fellow-shfpf. ■From clerk to office boy, every member of the staff had only the. kindliest feelings towards Mr. Kelly. Mr. Kelly suitably responded, and expressed the hope that his successor would got on as well with the staff as ho always had himself. Ho thanked them very heartily for the handsome present, and assured them lie did not need this to remind him of his very pleasant connection with the “Stratford Post.”
