AUSTRALIA X SOCCER TEAM’S TOUR. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) Sydney, September 1. ! A scheme lias been mooted to send' a soccer football team to tour America, Canada, and Great Britain. Mr Alexander Knox, on a recent visit to America, communicated with President Taft on the subject. The President replied that he would welcome the team provided it was an amateur one. The concensus of opinion (here is that Now Soutli Wales is strong enough to undertake the tour, but had better send an Australian team. AUCKLAND 20 v. Bay of PLENTY 3 Rotorua, September 1. Auckland defeated Bay of Plenty by 20 points to 3, after a scrambling game played in a sea of water. WELLINGTON 26 v. WANGANUI 9.i Wanganui, September 1. The Rugby representative match between Wellington and Wanganui was played here yesterday .The ground was in perfect order. About 1000 people were present. Wellington won a strenuous game by 26 points to 9. WELLINGTON 17 v. WAIRiAR APA 8 Wellington, September 1.
The representative Rugby match yesterday, between Wellington and Wairarapa, played at the Athletic Park, resulted in a win for tike former by 17 points to 8. The ground was bad, but the game was interesting and fast. Wellington kicked off, and strenuous play ensued, both sides putting in some fine work. From a melee almost on the line, Cunningham got the ball and scored, Lambert failing to convert. Wellington 3, Wairarapa 0. From the subsequent pack Johnson, for the Wairarapa, secured the ball and scored at the corner, Sandell converting. In the second spell the visitors began briskly, but the Wellington forwards were too good. From a good pass, Morris, for Wellington, secured and got over. Later, Morris passed to McKenzie, \dho got over with a cut-in run. Then, from a scrum, McLeod got possession and scored a try. Wellington 12, Wairarapa 5. Some quick changes ensued, when a well-sustained forward rush enabled Ross to score for Wairarapa. Wellington 12, Wairarapa 8. Hot play followed for some time, when through fine play by Darvill.
Wellington got to the line, anti from a forward rush Pony got the hall and scored. The game ended, Wellington 17, Wairarapa 8.
CANTERBURY 11 v. OTA CO .‘5. Christchurch, September 1. Canterbury boat Otago yesterday by 11 paints (a goal from a try, a pen altv goal and a try) to 3 points (a try). THE LEAGUE CAME. AUCKLAND 10 v. NEW SOUTH WALES 3. Auckland, August 31. At Victoria. Dark to-day, in the presence of 7000 spectators, Auckland defeated tlbe New South Whiles League team by 10 points to 3. Rain fell throughout the game, and the ball soon became wet and heavy,' making accurate handling difficult. New South Wales scored a solitary try in the first spoil. On resuming afto v the interval Auckland had all the better of the game. Mitchell and K.dcc scored tries, one of whiclh Hardgrav? converted. Hardgrave also kicked a
penalty goal, the game' thus ending. Auckland 10, Now South Wales 3. Play was very rough m the second spell, and the visitors wore subjected to a hostile demonstration by the crowd. There wore numerous inches, and towards the end of the game Dean was sent off for puncVcr Curran. The visitors were generally to blame, and in practically every scrum fist? were flying.
