TRAGEDY IN DUNEDIN.

FATHER KILLS HIS SOX. (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, August 31. A sensation was caused at Forbury Crescent, St. Clair, at midday today, t|he cause being a shooting affray which took place at the residence of Robert Turner. It appears that Percy Robert Turner had some words with his father, Robert Turner, this morning, before going to work, the altercation being due to bis father having been out of employment for some time, The son ordered Ibis father out of tlie house and assaulted him, and then went away. The father, incensed by his son’s conduct, laid in wait for him when Hue came home, and shot him in the side. Dr. Lindon was summoned and he ordered the removal of the victim to the hospital, where it was found that tlbe injuries were of such a character as to necessitate an operation. The bullet entered the loft side a few inches below the armpit and penetrated some of the organs. The bullet was exracted, when it was found that there was little hope of the young man’s recovery.

The police made arrangements to have his depositions taken, but tlhiis was out of the question, as he was in an unconscious condition. Robert Franklyn Turner, an elder son, said that he heard the report of a gun come from the direction of the stable and saw Ids brother fall, and then his father rushed out of the stable with the gun in his hand. Ho had never set'll the gun before. After perpetrating the crime Turner ran to the street, where he was met by a neighbour named Ross, who took tjbie gun from him. They then went to the South Dunedin Police Station, where Turner gave himself up, saying that lie bad shot his son in tfnie arm. He denied subsequently any intention to kill bis son. Turner succumbed to bis injuries at 6.40 to-night. He was employed as a commercial traveller. A charge of murder is to be brought against Robert Turner.
