SYDNEY DEPUTATION ABOUT SHIPS' BOATS. ENQUIRY PROMISED. Sydney, May 27. A deputation from the Trades Hall complained of the insufficient inspection of ships' boats and other applinucos, and asked for the appointment of a Royal Gpmnrssion for the maritime industry generally. It was alleged that in hundreds of cases boats were never used, and were stuck in the chocks. It was doubtful if they could be loweded into the water. On Some vessels lire drill was never carried out. In the opinion of the deputation, safety appliances were not ail that they should be. It favoured lifeboats on a passenger-carrying basis, not on a tonnage bass. It was denied that the inspections were not properly conducted, ami the Government promised an enquiry, but in view of the Federal Government assuming control of navigation, it hesitated to introduce local legislation.
