Sir Joseph Ward, in an interview before departure, said lie wes satisfi ■:! that Mr Fisher was whole-hearted in Ins desire to effect reciprocity hrt.voeu the Commonwealth and New Zealand, Mr Fisher stating that personally he would go to the extent of free lre.de between the two. The "Herald" stales that Sir Joseph Ward was sounded by Sydney and Melbourne friends as to whether, ii a seat were- found for him to contest at the next Federal election on l'i Liberal side, he would stand. TL was assured that it would not entail pecuniary sacrifice. The representations, however, wore not made on be half of the Liberal party or organisations. Sir Joseph Ward did not reply absolutely in the negative, but indicated the possibility of consent in certain events, if lie was assured thai the desire was not limited to any one section.
