OPUNAKE RAILWAY COMMISSION.
SITTINGS AT STRATFORD. ibo Opnnake Railway Commission met at tJio Borough Council Chambers at 10 a.in. to-day. Mr. Jacob Alarx, of Eltham, gave evidence in support of the adoption of the route existing railway reserve, with tiie junction at Eltham. Air. .1. .15. Richards submitted a statement advocating the construction of the line from Stratford to Opunake, with a branch towards Mauaia, which would bring the new line into direct connection with the existing railway system. Air. Richard Dingle, Chairman of the Stratford Dairy Factory, expressed, the opinion that New Plymouth would ultimately he the principal port for the shipment of produce from the district. With further development the northern part of the district would increase its output, and a line from Stratford to Opunake would most effectively serve the whole of the productive country. A feeder should be constructed from Kaponga to Manaia. Mr. Yv. P. Kirkwood, Aiayor of Stratford, considered that the district would he best served by a line from Opunake via Kaponga ’ to Stratford, and a branch line from Kaponga to Manaia.
Air. S. H. James gave evidence in similar lines in favour of the junction at Stratford and a feeder line from Kaponga to Manaia. (Sittings Proceeding.)
