Replying to a deputation at Wainn on Saturudav re starting railway construction at Wairpaalso, Mr MacPonald said ho would disapprove diverging money from the Gisborne or Napier ends. If Parliament authorised the work he was prepared to do so. At present the Government could carry its own material at either end. There were twenty-three lines under construction, but he was prepared to consider the question of starting the Wairoa see--tion if the engineer's report favoured
