BETTER AND CHEESE. Following is a copy of the dajry produce report (dated April 4 th) received by, Air. Newton King from R. and W. Davidson, Glasgow:—The butter market during the past week has again been very dull and depressed. Although total imports are very small, these appear to be ample to meet all requirements; in fact, at several points we believe some accumulation of stock is taking place. Tho cause of course has been the Je-j creased spending power of millions of; consumers owing to the coal vtr Ice,l

and the' shutting down of other live eg owing to the want of coal. At tl?e moment of writing the ballot of the miners has been completed, and the result is expected to be declared today. it is, however, immaterial which way the vote goes, as all over the country tho miners are now returning to work, and in the course of a few more days, it is fully expected they will mil have resumed. The, trade of the country as a whole lias suffered to such an extent that it will be some considerable time before we get back to normal conditions. The weather during the past few days has been much milder, and Home supplies

are now making their appearance on the market. Continental butters: The demand tills week has been fair at the official reduction. Owing to the Easter holidays the committee met yesterday in Copenhagen, arid declared the quotation as 3 kromcr lower. Danish and Swedish: 'The arrivals of Danish this week show a decrease of 114 casks. There was a moderate demand, and stocks fairly well cleared at a reduction of 5s per owt., choicest T2i)s to 130 s. Siberian: Arrivals this week total fully 3000 casks. The market has been dull and irregular, and juices are considerably weaker, strictly choicest goods are obtainable at 116 s to 118 s up to 120 s, u ith secondary descriptions at 312 s to 114 s. Telegrams received from Siberia show that the market there is again somewhat easier.

At the lower prices now ruling there appears to he a little more buying, and we think that for the time being we have got over the worst. Perfect quality unsalted is not plentiful, and commands 120 s to 1225.

Now Zealand.—The demand during the juist week has been excejrtionally slow, and there is still a considerable quantity unsold ex the s.s. Ruapehu, and the s.s. Delphic; juices have again favoured buyers. Choicest quality today cannot he quoted over 120 s, with iinsalted at 122 s to 121 s. Tho s.s. Tainui, with 14,000 boxes on board, is due to dock cud of this week. Imports to United Kingdom.—Tho total figures uj) to 30th March of tin’s year, and for the corresponding period of 1909. 1910, and 1911 are as follows: 1909, 1.111,101 cwt; 1910, 1,101,302 cut.; 1911, 1,205,462 cwt; 1912, 1,130,941 cwt.
