The Otago team’s matches were fixed as follows: Play Canterbury 31st August, Taranaki -Itli September, Auckland 7th September, Wanganui 11th September, Wellington lltb September; Southland plays Canterbury at Christchurch 10th August, Wellington at Wellington 14th August, Wanganui 17th August, Taranaki 22nd August. The Canterbury's tour will be as follows: Wellington 7th September, Taranaki 12th, Wanganui 14th September. Wellington will play Auckland at Auckland 21th Taranaki at New Plymouth 29th August, Wanganui 31st. Waihi, May 16. Everything is quiet. The union hold a roll-call this morning and those answering their names will be given strike pay. A large number of contracts have lapsed owing to 48 hours’ non-manning limit having expired. The contractors will lie heavy losers. An official at the Grand Junction has been working, cleaning up the remaining slimes, but no wages men are employed. The Minister for Public Works is endeavouring to secure work on the East Coast railway for Borough married employees until the Council’s revenue starts to conic in again.
