Following is the High Commission-er's-cablegram, dated London, May 11th (quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot):— Mutton.—The market is quiet but firm. Nominal prices: Canterbury 4-jjd, North Island 3§d. Lamb.—The market is active with a good demand. Prices are firm. The market has been favourably affected by a shortage of home supplies and a decline of 23 per cent of imports during the year. The weather continues favourable. Canterbury 6d, other than Canterbury ojd. Beef.—The market remains firm. Good demand continues. Best quality is scarce. N.Z. binds 4»d, N.Z. fores 3gd. Butter.—The market is steady with an improved demand. The decline is chocked and on the whole prices are slightly better this week. Choicest N.Z. butter to-day is at Ills, Danish 115 s, Siberian IOGs, Argentina 105 s, Australian 106 s. Cheese.—There is better demand and the market is firmer. N.Z. white 70s to 71s, coloured 71s to 725. Hemp.—The market closed firmer with more inquiry. Good business has been done. good fair spot £22, N.Z. fair £2O 15s>, forward shipment about the same. The Manila market is steady at previous quotations, vi/.., spot £'2l 15s, forward shipment £22. The output from Manila for the week was 33,1)00 bales. The stock of N.Z. hemp is 2(58 tons. Wool.—The market remains firm.
