WHANGAMOMONA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The new hotel was opened on Monday. Though not quite finished yet, it has made an appreciable improvement to the main street. The interior fittings arc very complete, and travellers will find the general planning of the rooms suchi as will give the maximum of convenience and comfort. We had a severe frost yesterday morning, with a little ice. It is hoped that a day or two’s frosty weather will clear the air, and give us a spell from the awful rain. An instance of the danger of allowing horses to wander on these narrow roads occurred one night last week. Mr Cutter, our factory manager, was riding down the Mangcre .Hoad when ho passed two stray horses, and in trying to get by them received a kick from one,on the leg that will put him on the disabled list for a week or two. Sportsmen are having a better time now than at the beginning of the season, some fair bags being secured. Arrangements are well forward for the Libera! Party banquet, tendered to the Ministry and Mr J. McCJuggage, on Friday next. People are becoming very much alive politically, and the two political factions out here are very enthusiastic about “boosting” their side at every opportunity. Those of. the Ministry who have not before visited us will receive, I am sure, a mild surprise at our place and people.

Mr Lester Mills has returned tc his home in Midhirst after a holiday in this district. The new Post Office will be roofed in this week. A crowd of busy carpenters arc working at it now, so that the date of opening is not far away.
