The acceptance hy the Imperial Postmaster-General, acting on behalf of His Majesty’s Government and the Governments of the Dominions, of flic terms submitted hy the Marconi AVireIpss Telegraph Company, Ltd., for the construction of all the long distance -wireless stations which will be required for the Imperial wireless scheme, marks the first step towards the establishment of a girdle of wireless stations round the Empire. Such a scheme has vast far-neaching potentialities.- It has been advocated for a number of years, .but it was not until last year, when the Colonial Prime Ministers and Air Herbert Samuel, the British, Postmaster-Gen-eral, acclaimed the practicability of the scheme before the Imperial Conference, that the decisive step was decided upon. The result of this is now evident in the decision of the Governments concerned to proceed .with the construction of the following stations forthwith;—London, Egypt, Aden, Bangalore (India), Pretoria (South Africa), and Singapore. The] stations will he operated by the Mar-j coni Company on account of the Government for the first six months, and thereafter by the Government. The company will receive a payment of £6OOO for each station, exclusive of the site, buildings, foundations and machinery. It is further provided that the company shall receive ten per cent, of the gross receipts of long distance stations for 28 years.
