LOOSE STATEMENTS.
Speaking at Stratford on Wednesday, the Hon. Geo. Lanrenson chore to refer to newspapers and their conduct in very free terms. He said that newspaper after, newspaper laid fallen into the hands of the wealthy conservative classes, and “this, had also happened in Taranaki.” in the course of an address at Toko last night, Mr Lanrenson said ho was not referring to Taranaki at all, and that ho know nothing of the newspapers in Taranaki in this respect. We are glad to learn that he admits this much, hut the fact that he made an absolute statement from the public
platform about something Avhich on the following evening he is compelled to admit lie knows nothing, indicates a looseness of expression .which doer not tend to inspire confidence in hie platform utterances, it :s regrettable that some politicians arc not mere careful of their words: the desire for fireworks and the strain for effect, seem to he too powerful to resist, and thus these vain imaginings.
