THE HON. G. FOWLDS.

EXPRESSION OF HIS VIEWS. The. former Minister of, Education in the Ward Government gave a definite indication of his position in national politics in 'his speech at the recent Labour meeting in the Auckland Town iiall "1 have waited for some 20 or 30 years," said the Hon. G. Fowlds, "for a truly progressive party to evolve in New Zealand. I left the Cabinet with the idea of precipitating just such a party as is nor." evolving out of the industrial and political unrest." He proceeded to say that lie defied anyone to say what were the principles of the present Liberal party which had- separated' < from the principals of the Liberal Party as it existed under the leadership of J.jhn Ballanco. Although he was not in entire accord with the full programme of the Uniteel Labour-Party, he could receive its platform with far more readiness than the platform brought down by the party with which he had been connected for so many years. (Applause.) "If the Liberal Party had been true to its traditions," lie continued, "it would never have been necessary to start a new party under the name oi' the United Labour Party of N:ew Zealand." Before very long he considered there would be a clear line of demarcation between the political parties in the House. The sooner this took place the bettor it 'would be for the Dominion. The time bad now arrived for the establishment of a forward movement in favour of social justice. (Applause.) It was announced during the evening that Mr Fowlds would conduct a.campaign throughout the country in favour of the United Labour Party.' "
