THE BOY SCOUTS.
A MILLION MEMBERS. (By Electric, Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) London, May 6. Bishop Willesden, preaching to the Boy Scouts at St. Pauls Cathedral, said that though the movement was not five years, old there were 600,000 Boy Scouts in the Empire, and nearly a million iri the world. BADGE TRIALS. A, further series of trials for Scout Badges was held in Victoria Park on Saturday when a'"number of hoys acquitted themselves creditably, tests iri signalling,' calculating area, and Scouts pace being undergone. Tne average time for one mile at scouts pace namely twenty paces running and walking alternately,'appears to bo about nine minutes, and the freshness of the scouts at the end of the time indicates that several miles could easily be done in this way in a comparatively short time, and suggests that this method of travelling should be very useful in cases of emergency. EVENING AT THE PICTURES. At the kind invitation of. Madame Bernard the scouts paid a visit to tne pictures last evening, when amongst other excellent and entertaining films pictures of a'scout field and rally in. the presence of King George were shown; Being a newly-formed troop Stratford scouts have not had the opportunity of seeing anything of this kind and the reproduction was, therefore, most instructive and interesting. The boys are most grateful to tne proprietress of the theatre for so thoughtfully giving them the opportunity of learning how things of this kind are done. THE CHIEF SCOUT, ' Many are hoping that it will be possible to go to Wellington on the occasion of the visit of the chief Scout General Baden Powell, and are working hard in order to become fit for this important outing. ; NEXT MEETING. The next scout meeting will be held at the Parish Hall on Wednesday, when a full muster is anticipated.
