HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB
LOS ANGELOS WINS THE CUP.' (Per Press Association.) Hastings, May 1. The Hawko's Bay Jockey Club's autumn meeting opened to-day in dull cold weather. The attendance was fair. The totalisator handled £12,503, as against £10,717 on the first day of the lust autumn meeting. Concluding results : Porangahau Handicap., of 100 sovs; si:; furlongs.—Bootle, 8.0, 1; Bandeira, 8.11, 2; Gladiole, 8.12, 3. Theodore 7.13, Meremere 7.0, Vi G. 12, and Auldearn G. 7, also started. Won by a length. Time, lmin loscc. Hawke's Bay Cup, of 450 sovs; one mile and a half.—Los Angelos, 9.10, 1; Mangaroa, 6.7. 2; Midnight Sun, 8.3, 3. Masterpiece 8.7, Miscount 8.2, Lady Moutoa 7.0, Ariom 6.13, Tepuia G. 13, Loch Mabin 6.7, and Elfish 6.7, also started. Lady Moutoa and Loch Mabin were responsible for the early running, the top weight, Los Angelos, being a long way back until the straight was reached. Half way down the straight Los Angelos threaded his way through, and in a great race home beat Mangaroa by half a length, with a similar distance between second and third. Time, 2min 36 l-ssec.
Karamau Hurdle Handicap, of 120 sovs; one mile and three-quarters.— Dogger Bank, 9.4, 1; Fond Memory, 9.0, 2; Whakaweira, 11.0, 3.. Paisauo 12.3, Corazon 10.11, Silva 10.1, Donzel 9.0, and Quandary 9.0, also started. Dogger Bank led all the way, and won by four lengths. Time, 3min 16'sec. Poukawa Hack Handicap, of 100 sovs; five furlongs.—Throve, 8.9, 1; Amaru, 7.10, 2; Miss Augusta, 7.13, 3. Lord Renown 9.0, Easy 8.0, Solaris 7.12, Boronia 7.11, Rongomai 7.10, Arohakau 9.7, Ngakau 7.9, Rising Sun 7.4, Morning 7.2, Hurakia 7.2, Wararo 7.0, Lord Kilcheran 7.0, and Missile 7.0, also started. Won by two lengths, with three lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 3sec.
Autumn Handicap, of 120 sovs; once round.—Byron, 8.5, 1; San Pluie, 7.0, 2; Meremere, 7.0, 3. Montiform 8.10, Faunus 8.3, Birkline 8.5, Sublime 7.12, Amato 6.13, and Composed 6.7, also started. Won by a length, with a length between second and third. Time, lmin 50sec. TWO THOUSAND. GUINEAS. (Received 2 10,15 a.m.) The Two Thousand Guineas Stakes resulted. —Sweeper 11 1, Gaeiger Hall 2, Cross 3.
