DESERTING SEAMEN.
AUSTRALIAN COASTAL TRADE ATTRACTIVE. FIREMAN FINED FIVE POUNDS. (Received 30, 12.40 p.m.) London, April 29. Fredericks, fireman, was fined five pounds for deserting from the Georgie at Melbourne. The White Star Co. stated that nineteen deserted from the ship. There had been similar cases, owing to the opportunity of earning £9 per month on coasting vessels compared with £4 in England.
