When the tenders for municipal trams were opened it was found that the prices exceeded the amount available. The Council decided to accept the lowest tenders provisionally on the ratepayers sanctioning a further loan of £IO,OOO. This was given ami the Council to-day accepted tenders as follows: Greenshields and Co., construction of permanent way, road and sewer alterations, overhead work and supply of mains, £30,710 0s 6d; Turnbull and Jones, power station, car shed, repair shop, £13,499 lis 9d; Brush Electrical Co., roiling stock, £lßl6 18s 2d. Auckland, April 26. Mrs Angus Nicholson, aged 60, and Mrs C. Little, aged 60, alter drinking hop beer at Takapuna yesterday were taken suddenly ill. Both became unconscious. In the case of Mrs Nicholson medical aid was of no avail and she died at 3 o'clock this morning. Mrs Little's condition is critical. Two other ladies in the party who had tea instead of hop beer had no ill effects. Hamilton, April 26. J. R. Palmer, contractor, 56, died suddenly at the deviation works on Tuesday night. At the inquest a verdict was returned of death from chronic alcoholic poisoning. Deceased, was a heavy drinker of schnapps. Gisborne, April 26. Mr W. B. Hingston, stock inspector, who was rushed and trampled on by a bfullock at the Matawhero saleyards a few days ago, is in a critical condition and is not expected to live. Wellington, April 26. A statement prepared by Mr A. S.
