OBITUARY.

IRISH LEADER’S DEATH.” (Received 26, 8.20 a.m.) London, April 25. Obituary: Justin McCarthy, Irish leader . MR. THOMAS LAWLESS. This morning Mr. D. J. Malone received the sad intelligence that Mr. T.,Lawless, late of this town, had parsed quietly away at his homo, Lake Takapuna, ' last night. The news will come as a painful surprise to many, for it is only a few days ago since Mr. Lawless was of a visit to Stratford, and he then appeared in excellent health.' He was, however, subject to occasional .severe heart attacks, and ii is supposed that one 'of these proved fatal. The late Mr. Lawless was born in Ireland, and came to New Zealand about forty years ago. He was in business as an ironmonger at the Ihamcs and, later went into the hotelkeeping at Paeroa and Waihi, and about twelve years ago purchased the freehold of the Stratford Hotel, which house he conducted very successfully for over nine years. Mr. Lawless then disposed of the business here and took over the Rutland Hotel at Wanganui, retiring about eighton months ago, and building a residence at Lake Takapixna. Mr. Lawless was well esteemed by all who knew him, and great sympathy will be felt for Mrs. Lawless and family in their bereavement. Deceased leaves four sons and two daughters.
