THE 11th REGIMENT.

To-morrow the camp of Taranaki’s Territorials—held this year on the Tlawora Racecourse—will break up. The boys of the 11th Regiment are a fine lot, and their behaviour in camp has been exemplary. It has been a grand experience for them, and some who reluctantly obeyed the summons to join their Company are to-day wondering why they over wished to dodge what has been one of the jolliest experiences of their lives. The records of our Public Schools prove we have a splendid lot of boys and girls in Taranaki, and the experience of the first camp of the 11th Regiment emphasises this so far at least as the boys are concerned. It must not be forgotten, however, that Taranaki is particularly fortunate in another respect, viz., in the men who have charge of the administration of the defence laws and in the training ■ f our national defenders. Material may be of the best but unless R is properly handled good results cannot be expected. In the men of the 11th Regiment there is splendid material and it would be difficult to find belter officers. From the Colonel to the corporals, energy and competence stand out. With Colonel Malone, the Regiment is in good and capable hand!, and ho is untiring in his wmk. Tie administrative head—Captain Tampon, area officer—is a perfect genius, aii'! his tact, watehfuln ws and im vrfailing devotion to the end in v ew, have enabled him to deal with a ve>v difficult problem without frr don aml with the least possible distil.-'-, .rice of Taranaki’s all-absorbing dairy r.furtry. Good work has been lone :n the camp, and we believe that the • \peilcr.ces of the past week will do mmh to prove that the scheme of -uir Territorial service is workable, cTv'.Tv. and can be satisfactorily earned out.
