DOMINION NEWS

(Per Press Association.) 'Wellington, April 22. An old man named John Crawford, for several years engaged in the cycle trade at Gore, was found tins morning near Otamita, with a bullet wound in his head. He was removed to the hospital, but succumbed an hour later. A repeating rifle was lying beside the body, and there was a small box oi bullets in his pocket. An inquest will be held. Dunedin, April 22. At 2.J0 this afternoon the Milton Fire Brigade was called out to suppress an outbreak in Gray’s stable's, adjoining the section in which yesterday’s fire occurred. The outbreak was quelled in a few minutes. Like the other fires, its origin is a mystery, the natural inference being that a spark from the other fire found its way into the stable, but the place where the fire originated does not lend support to the theory. The fire at Milton last night destroyed for the second time within five weeks the premises of James Gray and Sons, general merchants. The new stock, which was totally destroyed, was valued at £6OOO. and was partly insured, but the insurances are not available at present. Palmerston, April 23. Carl and Anderson’s granary at Sanson was destroyed by fire last night, when 300 sacks of lino Algerian oats and 20 tons of chaff were destroyed. There was only a small insurance on both building and grain in the .Goihmorcial Union office. The firm is a heavy loser. Trucks of grain on the train siding had a narrow escape and were saved by neighbours running the trucks out from the siding.
