SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
ANNUAL MEETINGS. STRATFORD. The annual meeting of the Stratford School Committee was held last evening, about fifty householders being present. Mr. R. Masters was elected! to the chair. Mr. C. i). Sole, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balancesheet, which were taken as road, said coat those vvno had studied the report would see that a considerable amount of work had been done. Ho asked that the householders pay attention, to the attendance roll, and elect men who will attend the meetings. They would see tnat the new committee Mould have a good working balance of £llO, and the school could not he carried on with the present capitation allowance alone. Mr. G. Smart seconded the motion, which was duly carried. ■■ Mr. N. J. King congratulated the committee on the excellent report and balance-sheet that they had brought down. it was highly creditable to the committee as a whole that they should he able to leave a 'surplus of £llO. Referring to Mr. Sole’s services, lie said that everyone must admit trial during tne ten nr twelve, years of. Mr. Sole’s services be had Morkcd M-ith credit to himself and credit to the town. No man had -,done more in the cause of education than Mr. Sole had dona. (Hear, hear.) He personally tvas extremely sorry that Mr. Sole, was retiring, he hoped that he Mould at least consent to be nominated if ho,had not too much to do. He considered' that Mr. Sole deserved tire thanks of the community for the way he had worked for the school. He again congratulated the School Committee on the excellent report, and sincerely trusted that tire next committee Mould bring down such ;i satisfactory report. He moved that it be placed on record their appreciation of Mr. Sole’s services during his term of office as chairman of the-School Committee. In seconding the motion, Mr. T. C. Fookes endorsed the previous speaker’s statements, and said lie thoughtall v.oukl realise the immense amount of -work Mr. Sole had done, and feel deeply grateful to him for the sacrifices lie had made in the interests of the children of this t-OM-n. The motion mmis carried unanimously During the nomination of ’members of the Committee, Mr. 11. McK Morison said he would like to see turn ladies on the committee. He considered that there were many minor matters in connection with the school that M ere more suitable for ladies to deal M’ith. The ladies present, however, refused nomination, so Mr. Mori son’s ■-•gu.ggcstiou Mas not feasible. Mr. C. I). Solo moved a hearty vote of thanks to the teaching staff for the manner in which they had pulled through after a very strenuous year. This was carried with acclamation. The following were elected member;-, of the committee:—Messrs. S. Clark, T. C. Fookes, A. Stewart, G.-Smart, J. W. McMillan, P. Skoglund, J. W. 13. Jones, J. W. Boon, and E. AY. Hancock. Co-id, J. Burkett, and M. Gall. NEW PLYMOUTH CENTRAL. Eleven nominations tvere received for the new committee, the following being appointed:—Messrs. E. P. Corkill, S. G. Smith, G. H. Dolby, C. T. Mills, 11. Sinclair, H. F. Russell, W. F. Short, Rev. Osborne/ and Archdeacon Evans. FRANKLEY. Eight M r ere nominated for the committee, Messrs. A. C. Donnes and E. N. L. Okey declining nomination. Messrs. Okey and Garcia M’ero appointed scrutineers, tiie election resulting: J. Lovell 21, W. Putt 24, W. Bondaii 23, J. Hamilton 21, F. No wall 21, A. Lister 20, P. Longman 19, and H. Cole 15. The first seven M’cre declared elected. NEW PLYMOUTH WEST END. Eleven Mere nominated for the committee, and the election resulted; Gilbert 17, Hawker 12, Thompson IS, Morrison 14, Bullot 20, Morris 15, Goad 22, Brokenshire 15, Coleman 18, Cannock 5, Gardiner 8. The first nine wore declared duly elected. At a'subsequent meeting of the committee Messrs. H. J. Gilbert and W. Bennett Mere re-elected chairman and secretary respectively. FITZROY. The election of the committee for the ensuing year resulted in the following being elected: Messrs. A. Catling J. Harvey, C. 11. Lawn, W. G. Reid, G. White, J. H. Rice, and the Rev. J. A. Kempthonie. At a subsequent meeting Mr. J. H. Rice was elected chairman. TOKO. At the meeting of householders held in Toko School last night the following persons were elected as committee foi ensuing year:—Messrs. M. Geruhoefer, T. A - . Lees, J. Kilpatrick, it. Bocock, G. Griffin, W. Pratt, and G. Bain (chairman). TUNA. At the householders’ meeting seven persons only attended, and the following gentlemen Mere chosen members of new School Committee: —Messrs. AY. Hathaway, Chas Latham, Thomas Vickers, Robert Milne, Fred Wellington, W. Skedwell, son., W. Skedwell, jnii, Mr. Hathaway was again unanimously returned as chairman, and Mr. Latham secretary. It was decided to request the parents of tiie children in the district to do their best to send their children very regularly to school, so that the school staff may not he reduced at the end of the present year. The inspector’s report on the school urns read, after which it M r as decided to congratulate the teachers on the good results obtained. After a quantity of routine business had been gone through the new committee adjourned.
