IN THE COURTS.

(Per Press Association.! Auckland, April IS. There, was a “lull house” at the Police Court to-day, when most of the people implicated in the recent Dotting raids came before Air Eraser, S.Ai. Lofty Richards and John Weston were charged with keeping certain premises in Queen Street, namely, No. 9 British Buildings, for the purpose of betting. Mr Thomas Cotter, K.C., appeared’ for the accued, who pleaded guilty. Air Cotter said that he had advised the accused that they had committed an offence, but asked the Magistrate to take all the circumstances of anomalous legislation into consideration. Accused were each fined £75 and costs. Leonard Andrews pleaded guilty t° charge of assisting in the management of a.common gaming house. He was fined ,£25. Charles Taylor and Robert Porter pleaded gpilty to a charge of being occupiers of an office in Coombe’s Arcade kept and used as a common gaming house. They were each convicted and iiiiod £75, and on relative charges arising from the above case weic convicted and discharged.

Daniel, Twohill, who , also pleaded guilty to a , charge of having kept a common gaming house in Coombe’s Arcade, was, fined £<o. A number, of persons found on the above premises on the occasion of the raid were fined £1 each. Other cases arc not yet concluded. Wellington, April 18.

At the.conclusion of Mr Richmond's address in the King v. the Auckland Electric Tram Company case, heard in the Appeal Court, the Bench intimated that the further hearing would ho adjourned till Monday, when they v.ill decide whether they desire to hear respondents. To-morrow the cases of Box v. Hassell and Campbell, and Rex v. O’Shaughnessy will he heard. Auckland, April 19. In the, Police Court, John divan, keeper of a billiard saloon, concerned in the recent raid, was fined £7O, and costs.
