The French garrison at Fez numbers 1500. Owing to increasing uneasiness at the enormous growth df expenditure, the House of Commons, at Mr LloydGcorgc’s initiative, has appointed a select committee to examine the estimates. Mr Lloyd-George explained that the House had ceased to exercise control over expenditure, except in respect to defence. Vienna, April 18. Mr Hcdervary, the Hungarian Premier, has resigned. Paris, April 18. The solar eclipse was well observed at St. Germains, The phenomenon frightened birds and animals. Calcutta, April IS. Frederick Seddon, convicted of the murder of Elizabeth Barrow, has been executed. He did not confess. In connection with the acquisition by the- Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. and Elder, Dempster and Co. of ordinary shares of the Union Castle line of steamers, the former company has been handed Mr Donald Currie’s cheque for over five million pounds. The cheque is said to be the second largest on record. The book,published by Madame Steinheil, Felix Faurc’s confidante, does not revehl any of the political mysteries confided by Faure, though it contains romantic details of a valuable pearl necklace.
