Grave fears are entertained for the safety of Mr George Petrie, a Christchurch builder, who As missing from Amberley. The details are meagre at present, and all that is definitely known is that a shirt, said to belong to Petrie, was found on the banks of a lagoon in the vicinity of Amberley, and that a search party will go out to-night.
Auckland, April 15. Ellen Carroll, single, 29, died at the residence of her parents, at Parnell, as a result of lysol poisoning. She had previously been ill and consulted a doctor, who found her in a certain condition and advised her to talk the matter over with her mother. The jury returned a verdict that death resulted from Lysol poisoning, while in a state of temporary insanity. Gisborne, April 15. At the incpiest of Gordon Brown and Leonard Goatley, drowned last week by being swept off the western groyne, a verdict of accidental drowning was, returned. The Magistrate commended the action of Hewitt Douglas, saying it was worthy of recognition by the .Royal Humane Society. Auckland, April 15. Harold Palmer, 15 years, was accidentally shot dead at Manirewa. It is understood that Palmer went out with a companion in the morning on a shooting expedition. His parents reside at Weymouth. They came to the district three years ago from Wanganui. Wairoa, April 15. Mr Joseph Corkhill has been reelected Mayor of Wairoa unopposed. A cinematographer, who is getting films of scenery for a well-known Paris firm, states that the scenery at Waikaremoana is grander and superior to anything he has ever seen. He will take away the best film material, he lias ever got. He was charmed with the beauty spots at Waikarcmoana, and predicts that when it is opened up by the East Coast railway, it will have a great future. Waipawa, April 15. A poll to borrow £1250 to improve the municipal theatre was carried by eighty to forty-nine.• W. H. Stent, an old resident of the district, committed suicide on Saturday. He was found in bis garden with Ids throat cut and with a razor alongside him.
