VALEDICTORY' TO THE REV. J. . ~'■'. M. THOMSON. , A very ■ large gathering assembled at, the , Toko ''Church " on Wednesday evening' for the purpose of . saying good-bye to Rev. J. , M. Thomson, M.A.!, and making him a present on behalf of the children of this district. Mr. Thomson, having received a unanimous and hoarty call to Foxton Presbyterian ■ Church, leaves for his now sphere of labour next week. The arrangements were made by the ladies, of the district, under the leadership of Mrs. J. B. Hine, and were most creditably and faithfully carried out. The social took the form of a tea meeting, and about 120 adults and children' sat at table, doing justice to the good things provided by the ladies. After tea was over, Mr. T. H. Henderson occupied the chair, and spoke of the object of the meeting, and of the high esteem,in which Mr. Thomson was, held by alb in the district, of his faithful ministry, both to old..and young, and expressed sorrow at his departure, Anthems were then rendered by the choid, who quite upheld-'their former reputation,, doing themselves great credit. Mr. E. T. King,. Home Missionary, ■* whs then called upon to speak on behalf of the children, and asked Mr. Thomson to accept :! their present as a memento of their love and respect, and appreciation,of his addresses to them, Miss Clara Milne> ,of \Waiwere Road, making the*, presentation. Mr. Thomson thanked..the'children for their useful present, and kind wishes, and expressed, the hope that they would grow up boys and girl's, to love Cod and the,church, anu spend their lives in His .service, and hoped that if ever" ;they came Foxton way they would, come and see him—but not all at once.. Other speeches were given bv Miss Urquhart, Mr. J B. Hine, M.F., Mr.AV. H. Were, Mr. Marfell, and Mr. Gf. Bain, all expressing their best .wishes to Mr* Thomson and of their\pleasui'e at tbe spirit of unity that now existed between all denominations'in this district.- A hearty vote of. thanks was accorded the ladies for their, help and kindness, Mrs. 'Hinc responding on their behalf. A vote of thanks, to the chairman and_ the singing ■'. of that good old -parting hy on "God be with You Till We ' Meet Again," brought to a close a very pleasaht and enjoyable evening.
